What is Mind? Mind is energy. According to Upanishads “The food that is eaten becomes divided into three parts. The grossest part becomes excreta. The medium constituent becomes flesh. The subtlest part become mind (Antahkarna). In his bhashya (Commentary) on mind, Adi Shankaracharya said: “Getting transformed into the mind-stuff, the subtlest part of the food nourishes the mind.”

In a 1926 letter to Born, Einstein complained “Quantum mechanics is very impressive, but an inner voice tells me that it is not yet the real thing. I am at all events convinced that He does not play dice.” As late as 1964, in his Messenger lectures at Cornell, Richard Feynman lamented, “I think I can safely say that no one understands quantum mechanics.” With quantum mechanics, the break with the past was so sharp that all earlier physical theories became known as “classical.” “There is no science of man,” wrote Nobel Laureate Alexis Carrel in his celebrated book ‘Man, the Unknown’ . Newer discoveries in physics showed that matter and energy are the two sides of the same coin — a duality. (Hans Peter Durr). One should read his article ‘Matter is not made out of matter,’ in lay man terms to get a better idea. The human body is but the human mind in an illusory solid shape. As the famous Johns Hopkins physicist, Richard Conn Henry, put it in 2005, “This world is immaterial — mental and spiritual.” Atoms are made out of invisible energy; not tangible matter. Physicists have failed to inform the general people of the purely mental nature of the universe (man included) and biologists and physicians are yet to understand quantum physics. First of all, it was found that the world is not made out of rigid firm objects like billiard balls or bricks. At the atomic and sub-atomic level, it consists of fuzzy wavelike objects and lot of empty space. So, the solid nature of objects we see around is only apparent. As one goes deeper and deeper, one keeps on finding vacuum all the way. This reminds one of the ideas of shunya (Zero) (Nothingness) and Maya (illusion) covering the whole universe, as Adi Shankaracharya said “Brahma Satyam, Jagat Mithya.” .....
